Independent Strategic Marketing Practice
Independent digital marketing work spanning online trends, content and social strategy, website improvements, and the use of Google Analytics and Search Console to understand behaviour.
Independent practice
A foundation of independent practice
My LinkedIn profile records self-employed work as a Strategic Marketing Specialist from 2013 to May 2024. This represents work accumulated across that period, with some overlap with the organisational roles listed separately.
The work included following online trends, conversations, and behaviour to inform strategy, as well as redesigning web pages, adapting communication approaches, and developing a social media presence around the needs of the work.
Connecting content with data
I used Google Analytics and Google Search Console to identify behavioural patterns and trends, alongside organic content and social media strategy. This brought audience understanding and observable data into the same improvement process.
Independent practice gave me experience of the connections between content, websites, and digital channels. A piece of communication could bring someone to a website, while the data from that website could suggest changes to the content.
What I carried forward
Working independently developed responsibility for the whole sequence, from framing the task to following what happened afterwards. It forms part of the foundation for my later agency SEO roles and for founding SE Ocean, where my responsibilities extend to the direction and working practices of a team.
