Web Wednesday 23.0 — AI & MarTech

Exploring the early generative AI era

I attended Web Wednesday 23.0 — AI & MarTech on 19 April 2023 at True Digital Park West in Bangkok, as generative AI was becoming widely accessible for people to try. This is one of the experiences that documents my engagement with AI during the early stages of that shift.

The event brought the digital community together to discuss AI and marketing technology. I joined with an interest in both marketing and technology, and in understanding the changes emerging in how people think and work.

MarTech: a strength combining marketing and technology

MarTech, or Marketing Technology, is another area of strength for me. It brings an understanding of marketing into direct contact with technology. Attending this event reflected that interest and experience.

The stage photographs show a landscape covering customer journey orchestration, marketing insights, content operations, and marketing operations. They capture the breadth of MarTech across different parts of a business.

What interests me is the relationship between a marketing problem and the technology used to address it. That leaves room to explore different tools, working methods, and new approaches as they emerge.

Seeing tools in action and meeting the community

One photograph records an OpenAI Playground demonstration on stage, with gpt-3.5-turbo visible on the screen. It captures a period when the digital community was beginning to explore and discuss generative AI tools together.

Meeting other attendees was also part of the experience. The group photograph belongs alongside the stage images: a gathering built around sharing and conversation creates opportunities to exchange perspectives with people who have related interests.

Following AI from possibilities to limitations

The following year, I attended Web Wednesday 25.0 — F_CKUP AI, which focused on AI use that did not go as expected. Together, these events document different sides of my engagement with AI, from exploring emerging technology to considering the problems encountered in practice.
